The Associate of Arts Degree in Health Care Administration is a comprehensive 16-month program that teaches health care administration and offers students a general introduction to a wide array of health care concepts. The curriculum includes basic computer operations and applications. This degree program also includes a general education component

The objectives of the AA in Health Care Administration are as follows:

1. To provide students with comprehensive knowledge of the major components of the modern health care industry.

2. To ensure that students understand the terms, language, and jargon of the medical and health care administration fields.

3. To provide courses, knowledge, and skill sets that will help students acquire the confidence and ability to handle day-to-day administrative and organizational activities in a health care setting.

4. To provide students with an understanding and appreciation of the importance of customer service in health care administration.

5. To teach students techniques of cost control and profit maximization in order to provide optimum health care to patients.

6. To provide students with an understanding of the importance of compliance due to the increased regulation of the health care field.

7. To expose students to the vast diversity that exists in the health care field, and to teach them the skills and sensitivity necessary to deal with the issues that diversity may raise.

8. To provide students internships in actual health care settings for the purpose of learning to apply skills and techniques taught in the classroom to real world situations.

9. To teach students the importance of information in health care decision making.

10. To provide general education courses for the purposes of enhancing students intellectually knowledge and growth in order to become well rounded citizens both in the work environment and in their communities.

11. To teach students fundamentals of computer operations and applications.

The field of health care is changing very fast and provides tremendous opportunities for entry level positions. The program is designed to prepare students for employment in a full range of entry level positions available in the health care field including hospitals and physician offices. Some of the examples of establishments where these entry level positions will be available include public and private hospitals, nursing and residential care facilities, offices of physicians, offices of dentists, home healthcare services, outpatient care centers, and ambulatory healthcare services.

The program is also designed to provide a foundation in basic health care fundamentals for those students who choose to further their education by continuing for the Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration.
