The Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Care Administration in a concentration in Health Information Systems Management is a comprehensive 32-month program that teaches health care administration and offers students a general introduction to a wide array of health care concepts. In addition, the concentration in Health Care Management Information Systems prepares students in the emerging careers in Health Care Information field. The curriculum includes basic computer operations and computer applications. This degree program also includes a general education component.

The objectives of the BS in Health Care Administration with a concentration in Health Care Management Information Systems are as follows:

  1. To make students understand how modern health care industry works.

  2. To help students understand the terms, language and jargon of medical and health administration field.

  3. To help students acquire a skill level to handle day-to-day administrative and organizational activities in a health care setting.

  4. To make students appreciate the importance of customer service in health care administration.

  5. To make students learn techniques of cost control and profit maximization in the context of providing optimum health care to patients.

  6. To make students understand the importance of compliance because of increased regulation of the health care field.

  7. To make students understand the diversity that exists in the health care field and teach them the sensitivity to deal with these issues.

  8. To help students apply the skills and techniques learnt in the actual health care settings by means of internships.

  9. Make students analyze the advantages and disadvantages of different health care systems all around the world.

  10. To provide students skills to analyze and explain organizational culture and analyze its impact on human resources.

  11. Ensure that students understand the various theories of leadership and how they are being applied in health care.

  12. Provide students the skills to analyze health care policy and management issues in the health care field.

  13. Ensure that students understand the effects of aging in relationship to wellness education.

  14. Help students apply the tools of strategic decision making in the context of health care.

  15. To teach students the importance of information in health care decision making.

  16. To help students understand how information systems have been adapted to the health care industry, including development, design, usage, adoption, expansion, and compliance with industry regulations.

  17. To make students recognize and understand the role of healthcare information systems in fighting healthcare fraud and the role of information technology and vendors.

  18. To help students understand the technological changes as they relate to Healthcare.

  19. To help students understand the various needs and wants of the clinical, operational, financial, and administrative areas within the Healthcare industry.

  20. To provide general education courses for the purposes of enhancing students intellectually knowledge and growth in order to become well rounded citizens both in the work environment and in their communities.

Health Care Information Management Systems is one of the fastest growing fields in the Health Care Industry. The concentration in Health Care Management Information Systems builds skills to provide cost-effective information solutions and optimal use of health information technology for the betterment of health care.

The program is designed to prepare students for employment in a full range of management and leadership positions available in health care and information management field including hospitals and physician offices. Some of the examples of establishments where these entry level positions will be available include public and private hospitals, nursing and residential care facilities, offices of physicians, offices of dentists, home healthcare services, outpatient care centers, and ambulatory healthcare services.
