This course teaches entrepreneurs how to use pay-per-click advertising on search engines to
Immediately grow a business. Students will learn the essential steps of keyword research, ad
copywriting, landing page design, bidding strategies, controlling cost and tracking results. By
creating an action plan for a sample business, students will get hands-on experience using tools and techniques to manage a profitable advertising campaign. This course will also teach students about career opportunities in search engine marketing.
A study of e-commerce and its impact on business. The course provides a framework for understanding e-commerce,
including possible marketing opportunities. This course also details practical concepts of setting up an e-bay business.
The concepts: introducing e-bay, evaluating your business’s sales potential, researching prices for your products, comparing e-bay with
existing sales channels, developing the e-bay identity, defining how business will work, preparing an auction listing, automating the
business with auction-management tools, refining e-bay presence, leveraging the brand online, tracking and evaluating the e-bay sales,
creating new markets and taking advantage of important web links.
The students will actually launch an e-bay business in this class. The students will have a supervised experience
in which they would be led by an instructor in step-by-step process of setting up an e-bay business. This course will offer real-world
advice on how to run that business on a day-to-day basis and maximize financial success. This course will mostly be experiential course,
in the sense the students will actually write e-bay business plan, start their e-bay business and write a short paper explaining the
implementation of their business plan.
This course enables students to design, create, and post personal web pages using Hypertext
Markup Language (HTML). Students will do assignments to apply theory in the Introduction to
Web Page Design class.
Deals with the fundamentals of commercial advertising. Topics include the creative process, advertising strategies, media (including: direct mail, print, radio, television), and copyrighting.
Deals with factors that relate to consumer reaction, to advertising, and products. Various cultural biases and demographics that influence buying are considered. Consumer perception and business marketing are emphasized and discussed in relation to specific consumer situations.
Course deals with the largest item in most budgets: personnel. Topics include delineation of job requirements, Equal opportunity and affirmative action, selection, training, performance evaluation, benefits, incentives, motivation, safety, and health.
This course builds upon basic domestic marketing principles and applies them to international commerce. Topics include international product strategies, pricing, promotion, and distribution.
This course prepares the learner to open and operate a small business. Topics range from the development of an idea through entrepreneurial planning to open an entrepreneurial venture. Managing the business and legal considerations is also covered. Students are required to actively engage in researching appropriate course-related material from periodicals, newspapers, or the Internet.
This course provides instruction in the varied cultural traditions among groups of people in a given society. Topics include how to succeed in a diverse workplace, understanding the dominant culture, understanding various minority populations, understanding stereotypes, and how cultural differences affect job success.
This course covers strategic issues and effective practices of communication between organizations and their constituencies. Topics include study of public opinion research, media relations, public communication campaigns, consumer identity, and representational ethics. Computer Lab assignments include writing news releases, conducting surveys, and designing integrated campaigns.
This course deals with integrating the knowledge and skills acquired in all the functional areas. Topics include establishing organizational goals and objectives, strategy formulation and implementation, industry and competitor analysis, corporate governance, top management decision making, mergers, acquisitions, downsizing, etc. There will be a heavy use of case studies.
This course focuses on the transactions taking place over the Internet. Students will be introduced to concepts related to the process of buying and selling goods, services, and information.
The purpose of this course is to describe what electronic commerce (EC) is; how it is being conducted and managed;
and its major opportunities, limitations, issues, and risks. Using a “hands-on” approach to the study of electronic commerce,
this course features in-class discussions, independent student projects, and the use of extensive, vivid examples from large
corporations, small business, and government and not-for-profit agencies. This strategy makes the concept come alive by showing
students the capabilities of e-commerce, its cost and justification, and some of the innovative operations. The instructor will
define specific assignments that require active research efforts as a requirement for successful course completion.
This course covers the two separate yet complementary practices within search engine marketing: search engine optimization
(SEO) and pay-per-click advertising (PPC). Within SEO, students will learn the essential skills of keyword research, spider-friendly site design, content optimization, and link popularity to achieve free rankings. Within PPC, students will discover how to write ad copy, design landing pages, manage bids, and control costs while buying their way to the top of search results (no programming skills required).
This course covers one of the hottest trends in Internet marketing: blogging. Students will discover how to create an effective and profitable business blog, while protecting it from reputation scandal and legal trouble. Podcasting and videocasting will also be introduced as next-generation promotional opportunities within blog marketing.
This course covers the study of interactive communities centered on a company’s brand and strengthening the bond between customers and products. Social networks including places like MySpace, Digg, De.lici.ous, and other incredibly fast-growing consumer-generated communities will be discussed in detail. Case studies will be part of this class.
This course covers current trends in Internet marketing. Students will examine a cross-section of statistics, articles, and case studies. Students will also share additional research they find online and discuss the future of web marketing with their classmates.
