Welcome!   We will make it easy for you to apply for financial aid to help you fund your online program.  To start the process you need to complete the steps below.  The first step is to obtain your private pin number and then proceed to complete you financial aid application (FAFSA)

Step 1: Pin Number

Register for a pin number at www.pin.ed.gov.  Your pin number gives you access to your FAFSA and can be used to provide your electronic signature on the FAFSA.

Please note:   The pin number is person specific.  If you require parental information, a parent may also register for a pin number.  Do not share your pin number with others.

Parental Information Needed?
If your answer is “Yes” to any of the questions below, you will not be required to submit parental information on the FAFSA.
  • Were you born before January 1, 1984?
  • At the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year, will you be working on a master’s or doctorate program (such as an MA, MBA, MD, JD, PHD, EdD, or graduate certificate, etc)?
  • As of today, are you married?  (Answer yes if you are separated but not divorced)
  • Do you have children who receive more than half of their support from you?
  • Do you have dependents (other than your children or spouse) who live with you and who receive more than half of their support from you, now and through June 30, 2008?
  • Are (a) both of your parents deceased, or (b) are you (or were you until age 18) a ward/dependent of the court?
  • Are you currently serving on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces for purposes other than training?
  • Are you a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces?

Step 2:  File the FAFSA

The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is the financial aid application you will need to complete.  Once you receive your pin number, complete the 2007-2008 FAFSA application at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  The LA College International school code is 016355You must have your 2006 tax information to complete the FAFSA application.  If you answered yes to any of the questions above you will also need to have your parent's 2006 tax information.  If you did not file taxes you may also use your W-2's, untaxed income records, income documentation, financial data, etc. Once you have completed the steps above, LA college International will receive your FAFSA results.

Step 3:  Additional items to complete your Financial Aid

Once your results are received, the Financial Aid Office will contact you to complete the final steps in the financial aid clearance process.  One in three students is selected for a process called verification.  In the verification process, LA College International is required to gather additional documents from the student.  Selection is a random process and does not indicate a denial of federal aid.  However it is absolutely necessary if you are selected that you provide the additional requested information in a timely manner.  Our Financial Aid Office is here to assist you and will be able to help with your verification.  You will need to complete the verification worksheet and send a copy of your 2006 taxes (dependent parent's taxes as well) or income documentation to support your responses on the FAFSA.  The verification worksheet will be emailed to you.  Please complete, sign and email or fax back the documentation to the Financial Aid office at 1 (213) 383-9369

You will also need to complete the EdFund Entrance Counseling Test to make sure you understand the terms and conditions of securing your student financial aid (Title IV funds).

Step 4: Completing the Loan Application(s)

You will need to find a lender to apply for a student loan.As an applicant you can select any lender you choose. You are not required to use any lenders from the following list.

If you want to view a comparison chart of these lenders click here.  This information is only provided for your convenience.  LA College International does not prefer one lender over any other lender, and this information is not intended as an endorsement of them as preferred lenders.

Step 5: You Are Almost Done!!

If you are receiving any scholarship or grant, you will need to inform the Financial Aid Office.Upon completion of the above steps, the Financial Aid Office will send you via email your Award Letter, which is the document that informs you the amount of financial aid you will receive.
