ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITANNICA ACADEMIC ONLINE

The Encyclopedia Britannica Academic Online has almost 100,000 encyclopdia articles found in the print edition, as well as Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and Thesuarus, a world atlas, some videos, and Internet web sites selected by the Encyclopedia Britannica staff.

You can enter the online Encyclopedia Britannica at the Library forum site in Moodle.

You may also enter the "Encyclopedia Britannica Academic Online" hyperlink on the library home page.

Enter your assigned bar code, and press the "Log in" button.  

You will see the search page for Encyclopedia Britannica Academic Online.

Email library@lac.edu if you do not have your barcode to enter Encyclopedia Britannica.

Before performing serious research, you may press the "Workspace" button shown below, to create your personal bookshelf, called a workspace in Encyclopedia Britannica.  Fill out the form (not shown) and create your own username and password.  Enter your email on the form with Encyclopedia Britannica, in case you lose your password.

Once you have filled out the form, you will receive a blank workspace like this one with instructions.

To search in Webster's Dictionary and Theusarus in Encyclopedia Britannica Online, set the search page to "Merriam-Webster Dictionary & Thesaurus."  In this example, the search is for Abortion.

Set the search page to "Encyclopedia Britannica Online."   Enter a search word, and press the round blue button, "Go."  This example shows a basic search.

You will see some encyclopdia article title results.  Browse the descriptions and click a title link.

Encyclopedia article page includes the part of the article which you found and a table of contents at left with links to other parts of a complete article.

The bottom of the article web page contains a proper citation, to document your research.  LA College International uses the APA style.

You can save articles from your research into your personal workspace.  To do this, press "Save to Workspace" above the article you want to save.


  Enter the name project name..

Then, press save.

This is a view of the article saved in the workspace.  You can email the article.  You can also easily write and save notes.
